Welders
A welder’s main objective at Somerville Industries is to Mig-Weld a variety of metal structures from verbal directions, sketches, drawings, and blueprints. Below you will find specific qualifications for each “level”.
Welder Level 1
Starting Wage - $15.25/HR
Ability and desire to learn new tasks
Perform MIG welding process on structures in flat, vertical, and overhead position
Keep shop clean and safe – free from debris and spills
Returns all equipment, parts, etc. to proper storage areas in accordance with 5S system
Ensures proper handling of tools, equipment, and stock to minimize waste and prevent safety incidents
Pass AWS weld test and receive Somerville weld certs
Complete Somerville Crane and Forklift certification
Follow safety regulations and proper PPE usage
Welder with the capability and knowledge of operating MIG welding equipment, basic shop tools and measurement tools
Understand role and operates all equipment required for role efficiently
~ Generally 1-3 years experience
Welder Level 2
Starting Wage - $19.00/HR
Consistent demonstration of desire and proven ability to learn new tasks
Communicates with other co-workers to coordinate activities under minor supervision
Maintain and repair all welding equipment
Assess welded surfaces to identify errors and notify QC when issues arise
Intermediate knowledge of drawings and welding symbols
Advanced welder with the capability and knowledge of operating all MIG welding equipment, all welding related shop tools, and measuring equipment
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of welds, sizes, and locations of welding notes on drawings
Proficient with all Welder Level 1 Skills/Tasks
~ Generally 3-7 years experience
Welder Level 3
Starting Wage - $20.75/HR
Volunteer and perform other miscellaneous projects and duties assigned by shop foreman
Advanced skill level for reading and understanding engineering drawings, weld symbols, welding procedures, and measurements to plan layouts
Use specialized machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job, i.e. Sub Arc and Robotic Welder
Has developed proficiency in a range of analytical processes or procedures to carry out assigned tasks independently
Advanced knowledge and capability for welding all assemblies and basic knowledge of stainless and aluminum
Forward thinking and planning ahead for next welding assignment
Consistently demonstrates desire and ability to learn additional skills outside of current job task
Creates team environment, help mentor/coach Welder Levels 1 and 2
Actively participates in continuous improvement and corrective action activities
Proficient with all Welder Level 1 & 2 Skills/Tasks
Participation and Involvement in Somerville Safety Program
~ Generally 7-10+ years experience
*Employee must show consistent progress of knowledge and skill
*Evaluation of class will be based off performance review, attendance, safety performance
*Years of experience are a general guideline, no guarantee for level increase
